Package Engineers Available to Anyone?

You can often get useful information by going to different forums. Recently I read from an international shipping forum that Fedex has a "packaging lab" and that you can call that lab to consult with a "packaging engineer". If this is true than certainly a business owner that is about to start shipping an item in high volumes that they have never shipped before should consult with a "packaging engineer". This should allow you to design a package for the item that will minimize damage. The best part is that if there is some damage you can always remind them that they okayed the package design and hey should pay up. Particularly when shipping international from North America.

These "packaging engineers" are probably entry level positions into Fedex but they probably work from a well developed FAQ list and could address most of your international shipping FAQs. You should be aware of the fact that they are not going to put someone with a real degree in engineering in that position but that person, if treated nicely, may be able to provide some valuable information regarding your packaging needs.

I have been searching for a mail forwarding company so I can internationally buy in the US for cheaper prices. I have came across Shipito. and ExpandMyBiz.com which is their discount sister company. Their services are excellent and shipping pricest are the lowest I've seen!! I highly recommend this company to any looking for a reliable, inexpensive shipping company!

This is the first that I've heard of "package engineer." It never occur to me that a certain job of specialty exists, wondering if the shipping company I use NY Box http://www.nybox.com has one too. These people may not have a high level of education, but if they're doing this for years, they are considered "experts" in package design.

Interesting article. I've learned something new today. :)

Great article. Somehow I struggle to find legit forums online that are actually talking about what I am looking for. As for the mentions of package forwarding services, I believe https://www.goopping.com/ECommerce/goopping/ (Goopping.com) is a reliable site. I know folks in Melbourne who buy from the US and ship with them all the time.
